Where the Hell is Matt?

22 06 2008

A man named Matt Harding visted 42 countries to make a very inspiring video that warms the heart.  The video took 14 months to make and has a cast of thousands.  From Matt: “Thanks to everyone who danced with me.”

Eject!

8 06 2008

USAF Thunderbirds Opposing Solo Pilot Capt Chris R. Stricklin, misjudged his altitude before beginning his Split-S takeoff maneuver at Mt Home AFB on Sunday, September 14th, 2003. When Capt. Stricklin realized his error, he banked the A/C away from the spectators and ejected, a split second before the plane impacted the ground in a massive fireball.

Made a DOB Circuit

29 04 2008

In Digital Electronics class I made a Date of Birth circuit. Not incredibly amazing but I made it from scratch pretty much. Take a look.

The display for the circuit

Ps: Sorry about the crappy quality. It was filmed on a regular digital camera and then YouTube did not make it any better.

Test firing of new NASA methane rocket engine

21 04 2008

This new kind of prototype rocket engine, fueled by methane, was built by Alliant Techsystems/XCOR Aerospace.  Although it is not ready for space this engine will by key to exploring the far reaches of space.  Simply breathtaking, take a look.

LittleDog

9 04 2008

Just visited Penn today and I got to meet LittleDog. LittleDog is a “quadruped robot for research on learning locomotion.” Very neat I must say. LittleDog was made by a DARPA, (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency), funded company called Boston Dynamics. You may have heard of their more popular projects such as LittleDog’s big brother BigDog. The goal of the BigDog project is to be a rough-terrain robotic pack mule for soldiers, pretty neat.

Microsoft’s vision on the future of healthcare

27 03 2008

Microsoft has some really interesting concepts on their mind. My favorite ones were the credit card one and the find your way around arrow.  Also in the hands of the wrong people, the x-ray vision could be a little dangerous.  :)

Stage6 alternative (Veoh)

2 03 2008

Well Stage6 is officially down but we have a replacement, Veoh. It is still in Beta but is still pretty good. I also believe that most of the videos that were on Stage6 before it was shut down were uploaded to the Veoh network.

This is Stage6’s statement about Veoh:

“Stage6 is introducing Veoh Networks Inc. as a site that promises to offer our users a smooth transition. Millions of people use Veoh each month and we feel it is a great fit for our users.

Veoh enables you to upload, download, and watch high quality videos, including any DivX file.”

Stage6 to Shut Down on February 28!

25 02 2008

wHaT!?! This is an outrage.

“I’m Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I’m writing this message today to inform you that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. Upload functionality has already been turned off, and you’ll be able to view and download videos until Thursday”

Read more about it at the Stage6 blog.

What a sad day in the internet.

PS: Does anyone know of any sites that even compare to Stage6? (HD content, independent films, movies, and TV shows)

Amazing bullet train toy

25 02 2008

The Z-drive is still a prototype but it needs to be a real toy. I would buy one in a heartbeat. How badass would it be to have a freaking bullet train monorail going around your house. Also I like how they made everything light up like that. Have fun.

Studio Roosegaarde – explorations in art & technology

Interesting project and I might give it a try on a smaller scale. On Newegg you can get case fans for like $1.29 each if you order more then 10 and get free shipping with them. Good deal.
